Radiant Ramadan: How to Keep Your Skin Glowing While Fasting

by Ibad Ur Rahman 02 Mar 2026

Ramadan is a beautiful time for spiritual reflection, discipline, and community. However, the change in eating patterns and sleep cycles can often take a toll on our complexion. With long hours of fasting, dehydration is the most common culprit behind dull, tired-looking skin.

The good news? You don’t have to choose between your spiritual goals and your skincare goals. With a few intentional adjustments to your Ramadan skincare routine, you can maintain a healthy, luminous glow from Suhoor to Iftar.

1. Prioritize Internal Hydration

The foundation of great skin during Ramadan starts the moment the sun sets. Since you aren't drinking water during the day, your skin can become parched.

  • The Rule of Two: Try to drink at least two liters of water between Iftar and Suhoor.

  • Eat Your Water: Incorporate water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges into your meals. These provide hydration along with essential vitamins.

  • Avoid Caffeine: Limit tea and coffee, as they act as diuretics and can lead to further dehydration.

2. Simplify Your Skincare Steps

When your body is adjusting to a new rhythm, your skin can become more sensitive. This isn't the time to experiment with harsh chemical peels or high-strength retinoids. Stick to a gentle, nourishing routine:

  • Gentle Cleansing: Use a sulfate-free cleanser to avoid stripping your skin’s natural oils.

  • Layer Your Moisture: Use a hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin followed by a rich moisturizer to seal in hydration.

  • Don't Forget SPF: Even if you feel tired, UV rays are still active. Protect your skin during the day to prevent pigmentation and premature aging.

3. Watch Your Iftar Plate

We all love traditional fried treats, but excess sugar and oil can lead to "Ramadan breakouts." High sugar intake causes a spike in insulin levels, which can trigger acne.

Try to balance your meals with:

  • Dates: They are packed with fiber and skin-loving minerals.

  • Healthy Fats: Avocados and nuts provide the fatty acids necessary for a supple skin barrier.

  • Green Leafy Veggies: These are rich in antioxidants that fight oxidative stress caused by lack of sleep.

4. The Power of Power Naps

Sleep deprivation is a major cause of dark circles and a sallow complexion during the holy month. While your nighttime sleep might be interrupted for Taraweeh and Suhoor, try to catch a 20-minute "power nap" in the afternoon. This helps your skin cells regenerate and reduces cortisol levels.

5. Use Cooling Face Mists

If your skin feels tight or hot during the day, keep a rosewater mist in the fridge. A quick spritz provides instant relief and a burst of topical hydration without breaking your fast.

Conclusion

Maintaining a Ramadan skincare routine is all about balance. By focusing on deep hydration, mindful eating, and gentle topical care, you can ensure that your skin looks as vibrant as your spirit feels. Remember, true beauty starts from within, and a little extra self-care during this holy month goes a long way.
